Free Online Typing Speed Test - Measure Your WPM, Accuracy & Raw Speed
The Delimiter.site Typing Test measures how fast and accurately you type in real time. Choose a duration from 15 seconds to 30 minutes, select a difficulty, and type the words on screen. When the timer ends you get your WPM, Raw WPM, accuracy percentage and a character-level breakdown.
What You Type in 4 min
WPM counts every five characters — spaces included — as one word, so the amount of text you actually produce in 4 min is fixed by your speed. Use this to sanity-check a score, or to work out how much of a document 4 min of typing would actually cover.
| Speed | Words in 4 min | Characters | Errors allowed at 98% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 WPM | 120 | 600 | 12 |
| 40 WPM | 160 | 800 | 16 |
| 60 WPM | 240 | 1200 | 24 |
| 80 WPM | 320 | 1600 | 32 |
| 100 WPM | 400 | 2000 | 40 |
| 120 WPM | 480 | 2400 | 48 |
What Your 4 min Score Means
Published typing benchmarks almost always describe a one minute test. Because speed drifts with test length — short tests flatter you, long tests punish tension and fatigue — the bands below rescale the standard one minute ranges to 4 min, so compare your score against these rather than against a figure you read somewhere for a different length.
| Band | 4 min WPM | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Under 28 | Hunt-and-peck, or still learning touch typing. |
| Average | 28-42 | The typical adult typist. Comfortable, but looking at the keys. |
| Proficient | 43-61 | Touch typing without thinking about it. Most office workers land here. |
| Fast | 62-85 | Noticeably quick. Typing is no longer the bottleneck in your work. |
| Professional | 86-103 | Transcription and data-entry territory, sustained at high accuracy. |
| Elite | 104+ | The top fraction of a percent. Competitive typing speed. |

Wondering why your 4 min raw WPM is higher than your WPM, or which difficulty to pick? The typing test guide covers the scoring maths, the three word pools and the technique that actually moves the number.
